The entry-level job of 2026 demands critical thinking, judgment, and AI fluency from day one. Our universities and our organizations are still designing for a different era.

The skills coming out of universities don't yet match what AI-enabled workplaces actually need. And the organizations on the receiving end of that talent aren't doing much better, as many have reduced entry-level hiring without thinking carefully about what gets lost when you do.

Hollowing out entry-level jobs now will hollow out mid-level and upper-level leadership in five to ten years. The tribal knowledge, effortful learning, and human judgment that comes from doing the hands-on grunt work constitute knowledge you can't AI your way into.

This white paper is a call for collaboration between academia, corporate HR, and L&D, and the students and new graduates navigating this transition in real time.

Multiple stakeholders. One gap.
And a genuine opportunity to bridge it, if we're all willing to do the work.
